THE Luminaries actress Eve Hewson has candidly opened up on how having U2 frontman Bono as her father made opportunities in her acting career “easier.”
The 28-year-old Dubliner’s first high-profile role came in film drama, This Must Be The Place, yet she is now a household name thanks to the new BBC series, which is an adaption of Eleanor Catton‘s Man Booker Prize winning novel of the same name.
In The Luminaries story of love, murder and revenge, Eve plays defiant young adventurer Anna Wetherell, who has travelled alone to New Zealand in search of a new life.
Yet she has told how playing the protagonist may have come a little easier to her, thanks to her audition opportunities courtesy of her With Or Without You singer dad’s fame.
She told the Radio Times: “In the beginning, I think it was easier for me to get in the door.
“Some of the friends I went to Tisch with are the most talented actors but have found it difficult to get an agent or an audition.
“That’s never been a problem for me, and I think that’s because of my family.
“That’s not the way the system should work, of course, but if the door is open, walk through the door.”
Yet talking of the negatives, she added: “It can then become a bit of a hindrance, because they can’t separate you from your father or see you as an individual.
“Often, they have very low expectations, and they really don’t think you’re going to be good.
“And then you are quite good, and they are quite surprised.”

They’ve now been married for 38 years and Eve’s the second eldest of their four children.
Meanwhile Eve, who now lives in Brooklyn, might be hoping her famous dad doesn’t set eyes on her latest, raunchy beach romp scenes for the BBC One drama.
The Sun exclusively revealed the racy moment, which aired yesterday, and saw her Irish prostitute character have al fresco sex with another woman’s husband in the second episode.
