Countdown presenter Rachel Riley, 34, has revealed the coronavirus outbreak had quite a significant impact on her parents when her mum Celia Riley came down with COVID-19 symptoms. The star explained that although her mum was “okay” and thankfully didn’t have to go to hospital with the virus, her dad Christopher Riley is on the shielded patients list, which means he would be at a higher risk of developing complications from coronavirus infection, according to the NHS.
As a result, Rachel explained her parents had to “avoid each other” around the house at the time to keep her dad safe.
Speaking exclusively to Express.co.uk, the television personality divulged: “My mum, we think she had coronavirus and she’s fine now.
“There’s a lot of families who won’t be in the position to get back together until the end of this.
“She was okay, she didn’t go into hospital or anything like that but my dad’s on the shielding list so we’re really just lucky that he didn’t get it.”

She said: “The adult-child relationship has switched, I think with my friends as well, they’re kind of giving their parents strict orders, stay home, stay indoors and wash everything that comes in.
“I think we all get our information from different sources these days so especially with parents who are a little bit older you have to make sure they’ve got the info.”(sic)
Rachel also opened up about the difficulties of her mum and dad having to miss out on her and her husband Pasha Kovalev’s daughter Maven’s early developments because of lockdown restrictions.
While speaking about missing her parents, she explained: “It’s their first granddaughter and they’ve missed a lot of her life when she was little and they change so much at this age, but we’re really fortunate.”

Rachel went on to say time has been going “really quickly” raising the little one, who was born in December, with former Strictly Come Dancing pro Pasha.
The mathematics expert recalled: “We spoke to friends the other day and they said, ‘Have you enrolled her at schools?’
“And I said, ‘No’, and they said, ‘[Gasp] What is she, five months? You’d better get a wriggle on!’”
Rachel went on to explain she hasn’t thought about certain family plans the pair need to make because of the coronavirus lockdown.
She added: “There are things that we haven’t thought about, especially on lockdown.
“So we’re already having to look at schools and things like where we might want to live and she’s got two little teeth already and I’m starting to wean her so it goes really quickly.
“It’s amazing, you don’t know until you have one but you can see what the hype is with babies, they’re great.”
