A DAD secretly built an amazing playhouse complete with windows and lights for his four daughters – but other people have warned, while it looks brilliant, it might breach planning rules.
The dad wrote on the Extreme Coupons and Bargains UK Facebook page to tell how he had built the structure from scratch, after getting the rotting shed for free and upcycling the roof.
He said: “[I] give it a go , from building support frames to re-felting roof.”
The only thing he paid for was £30 for timber and Ronseal (plus he added the fairy lights).
It appears to be in two levels and even has windows and lighting.
“Blood, sweat and tears – free,” he joked.
He said his girls thought he was “the best dad ever” – and we can see why.
“Your girls will be very happy! You should stand back, take a look and be very proud,” said one woman.
Another added: “Fabulous work , your girls gonna love this.”
But other people pointed out it was so big it looked like it could potentially breach council planning permission.
One asked: “Don’t you need planning permission from the council?
“Just asking coz [sic] it’s best to know, tbf the play house is nice and it would be a shame if it gets forcefully knockdown.”
One woman said: “Where we live a councillor put up a huge shed and didn’t get permission, had to take it down. Anything over 6ft [by] 6ft defo needs planning. Not 100% about size but think it’s 3 metres.
“Looks fab though, hopefully the guy has good neighbours.”
What is planning permission?
According to the UK Government you will probably need planning permission if you want to:
- build something new
- make a major change to your building, eg building an extension
- change the use of your building
But it depends on the dimensions of what you are doing, where it is and a whole host of factors.
Planning permission is granted by local authorities.
You can apply for planning permission online.
If your project needs planning permission and you do the work without getting it, you can be served an ‘enforcement notice’ ordering you to undo all the changes you have made, the Government said.
