Coronavirus UK news LIVE: Deaths reach 42,632 as Boris Johnson set to reveal lockdown rules update this week

A TOP Italian doctor has claimed that the coronavirus is weakening, and could even die on its own without a vaccine.

Professor Matteo Bassetti told the Mail on Sunday that the virus is “changing in severity”, and this could be down to factors including a genetic mutation, better treatments and social distancing measures.

Meanwhile, coronavirus deaths in all settings reached 42,632 today after 43 new fatalities were reported.

London, Northern Ireland and Scotland recorded no deaths in the past 24 hours on Sunday, according to the figures.

It comes as Boris Johnson is set to announce a new ‘one metre plus’ social distancing rule on Tuesday in a bid to reopen businesses.

The PM may scrap the social distancing rule from July 4 as he prepares an end to the lockdown in England with a raft of announcements to come over the next fortnight.

This comes as Spain are allowing Brits to travel to the country without quarantining upon arrival.

Meanwhile, holidays to other destinations including Portugal and Greece are expected to go ahead from next month.
