It’s the first leading role in a British show for the actor, who was warned off a showbiz career by her 60-year-old rock star dad, whose real name is Paul Hewson.
But Eve – whose full name is Memphis Eve Sunny Day Hewson – pursued her dream and quickly discovered being Bono’s daughter helped her to secure auditions.
Speaking in the latest edition of the Radio Times, she said: “That’s never been a problem for me, and I think that’s because of my family.
“That’s not the way the system should work, of course, but if the door is open, walk through the door.
“It can then become a bit of a hindrance, because they can’t separate you from your father or see you as an individual.

“Often, they have very low expectations, and they really don’t think you’re going to be good. And then you are quite good, and they are quite surprised.”
As lead role in the six-part show, set during New Zealand’s 19th Century gold rush, Eve’s helped make The Luminaries the second biggest new drama of 2020, with 6.2million watching Sunday’s debut episode.
Her mother is Irish businesswoman and activist Ali Hewson, 59, whom Bono met when they were both 12 years old. They’ve now been married for 38 years and Eve’s the second eldest of their four children.
