Gomes has made two appearances in the Premier League this season and three in the Europa League.
Goal report that he is reluctant to sign a new deal because of concerns over playing time.
Solskjaer wants the youngster to stay but will not stop him should be opt to leave.
The Old Trafford boss said: “With Angel, he’s a top kid we’ve had at the club for so many years, we’ve offered him a deal and hopefully he’ll take that and if not I wish him all the best.
“From what I understand it’s not too far away, if not we’ll wish him all the best.”
SunSport told you last month United had offered Gomes £30,000 a week in order to tempt him to stay.
There were additional bonuses for appearances, goals and trophies won included in that offer.
The deal’s structure would be similar to the one recently handed to Tahith Chong, who put pen to paper on a long-term contract.

Gomes – who joined the club as a schoolboy – wants to stay as long as Solskjaer can assure him of first-team action.
He is thought to be concerned by United’s interest in Jude Bellingham, who was spotted at their training ground earlier this year.
The 16-year-old Birmingham wonderkid plays in a similar position, and would cost the Red Devils upwards of £30million.
A number of Premier League sides were looking at him though, including Chelsea.
