Amazon Echo gets an incredibly addictive new Alexa game – and price drop you won't believe

Amazon Echo owners can now enjoy an addictive new game. Dubbed Word Pop, the title was developed by Zynga – the San Francisco company behind the likes of FarmVille, Words With Friends, Zynga Poker and some 57 other games. Based on Words With Friends, Word Pop is exclusive to voice assistant Alexa.

According to the game developer, “Word Pop is an entirely new take on classic Words With Friends style play”.

In the game, Alexa will challenge players to create as many words as possible from a six-letter bank during a series of one-minute sessions. Against the ticking clock, players must say or spell-out as many words as they can during each session, earning points for both the number and length of words found.

If you always enjoyed a few sessions of Words With Friends during your morning commute, this new version of the game could be a perfect way to get your fix while spending more time at home. Google Home or Siri users will not be able to enjoy the voice-only game, which is a real coupe for Amazon and its talkative Alexa voice assistant.

Zynga says the game is available on all Alexa-enabled device, including the best-selling Amazon Echo, surround sound-focused Echo Studio, or the recently-launched Echo Auto, which is designed to bring the AI assistant to your car.

And if you like the sound of Word Pop and don’t yet have a smart speaker in your fledgeling smart home, Amazon has unleashed some epic deals across the entire range at the moment. The US retail firm has dropped prices by as much as 40 percent.

The Echo Dot with Clock – one of the smallest devices in Amazon’s arsenal, which boasts all the usual AI smarts from Alexa coupled with a digital clock-face has plummeted from £59.99 down to £34.99. Although it doesn’t have the biggest built-in speaker, Echo Dots can be paired with existing sound systems to really boost the oomph of any tracks you ask Alexa to play.

The Echo Plus, which is slightly bigger than the Echo Dot and boosts a bigger sound, has dropped from £139.99 to £74.99 in the latest sale. Echo Plus is designed to be the hub that controls a vast array of smart home devices – as it already contains most of the technology contained in the hubs you’d usually have to connect separately to your router for the likes of Hive smart heating, Philips Hue lightbulbs.

For that £74.99 price tag, you’ll also get a complimentary Philips Hue white lightbulb thrown in there as well. These usually cost £14.99 alone, so that’s a pretty substantial saving.
